Tips for Finding the Best Disc Golf Discs
The best disc golf discs may not be the ones that the professionals are using, as you may think. What really matters is what level of player you are, then finding the best discs for your needs. Then, as you get better and are able to control the disc more, you can move on to heavier, more unstable discs. The worst thing you can do, as a beginner or avid disc golfer, is to buy discs that are above your abilities. Below are two key elements to disc selection.
The Best Disc Golf Discs for Stability
Each disc is designed with a stability factor, meaning, how much the disc will go straight if thrown perfectly flat. They range from a -3 to 3. The closer the disc stability is to 3 or -3, the more unstable the disc is. Discs with a rating of 3 or -3 are very unstable and hard to control, these are the professional discs. Discs with a rating closer to 0 are stable and easy to control the flight pattern. Note: As the disc wears after use, the stability will “wear out” and the disc will become more unstable.
Tip: For a new disc golf player (or someone trying to enhance their game), it would be wise to start with a stable disc (stability rating closest to zero) to learn the control part of the game.

Best Disc Golf Discs for Weight
When it comes to finding the correct weight of discs you should be throwing, you have to know how it affects the stability. It can be summed up quite easily: the heavier the disc, the more unstable the disc will be. What does this mean to you? Well, if you were a professional, you would be throwing the heaviest discs available. For the beginner, or even the average player, you will want to start with a lighter disc and move up to heavier discs as your skill level increases. So you can say, the best disc golf discs are heavy with a stability rating of 3. But you may not be at that level yet, so be patient.
Discs are measured by weight in grams. They range from about 120 grams on the low end, to 176 grams on the high end. Discs that are 150 grams or lighter are considered in the lightweight category, and this is where any beginner should start to find the best disc golf discs. Another good tip, lighter discs can go a mile.
With these two key elements to choosing the best disc golf discs, you are able to make an informed decision on what disc you should be using.
