Discraft Buzzz Review: Dependable Disc Golf Flier

Hi there, fellow disc golf enthusiasts! I’m excited to bring you another in-depth article focusing on one of the mainstay mid-ranges in disc golf. Come and read my Discraft Buzzz review.

With over thirteen years of experience playing disc golf, it’s safe to say I’ve thrown my fair share of discs. I pride myself on giving honest, clear-cut reviews based on my experiences on the course, and this is no exception.

Not only does this product hold a special place in the disc golf community, but it has also been one of my personal favorites over the years. Keep reading to discover why this disc is worth a place in your bag!

Consistency In Flight

Pink Discraft Swirly ESP Funky Buzzz (Ben Askren) with Pink Stamp
  • Speed: 5
  • Glide: 4
  • Turn: -1
  • Fade: 1

The Buzzz’s characteristics tell me this is a disc built for solid control and stability. With a speed rating of 5, it’s not the fastest disc out there, but that’s not necessarily bad – especially for those who might not have the arm strength to utilize a high-speed disc fully.

What I love is the glide rating. At 4, it can stay aloft, making it ideal for long, straight approaches and midrange drives. The turn rating of -1 ensures a gentle opening to the right (for right-handed, backhand users) but won’t drastically veer off the path, while the low fade of 1 means it will round out its flight with a subtle curve to the left.

This combination of numbers makes it impressively trustworthy, something I’ve found in my play. Throwing it feels like having a dependable friend on the course – it goes where you want it to, almost all the time. It’s ideal for those who like a stable, predictable performance.

A Plastic To Hold Any Line

Teal Discraft ESP FLX Buzzz with Holo Pattern Stamp
  • Diameter: 21.70 cm
  • Height: 1.90 cm
  • Rim Depth: 1.30 cm
  • Rim Width: 1.20 cm

A closer look at the Buzzz’s specifics reveals why this disc could be the right fit for many. Its 21.70cm diameter is pretty standard, replicating the traditional Frisbee feel that most of us are familiar with.

Its height of 1.90 cm and rim depth of 1.30 cm make it a comfortable disc, irrespective of your hand size. Thanks to these specs, my buddy, who usually struggles with larger discs, loves this one.

Its moderate rim width of 1.20 cm renders it manageable and easy to control. Too often, discs built for speed feature wide rims that can feel strange in the hand and harder to control. Luckily, this isn’t one of them.

Across the board, this is designed with size and shape in mind, ensuring a familiar feel that is perfect for users of all experience levels, especially those just starting their disc golf journey.

For All Disc Golf Users

As one who’s seen all ups and downs in this beautiful game, I’m willing to vouch that the Buzzz is one of the most ‘democratic’ discs out there because it caters to a wide proficiency range. From beginners trying their luck at flying discs right through to the more tenured players, I’d say it fits snugly in everyone’s hand.

Going through reviews, I noticed a common thread with my observations. So many fellow disc golfers have found this a staple in their bag. Its ability to hold any line you put it on is a charm that doesn’t go unnoticed. This is an incredibly important trait for beginner-level students looking to master their form and throw.

One of the reviews, in particular, mentioned that the disc remains consistent up to a range of 275′, making it ideal for shorter holes and approach shots. It’s a dependable and forgiving disc that can handle varied shot requirements is a great confidence booster for any beginner.

Conversely, more experienced users aren’t left out, either. This can handle powerful throws and maintains stability, even when subjected to strong winds or when you’re giving it that extra zing for long-distance shots.

These traits make it a popular choice among the pros. One seasoned golfer even mentioned it as best for both backhands and sidearms. And guess what? I tend to agree. Finding a disc that can deliver consistently for both play styles is hard, and this item hits the mark.

So, whether you are a beginner looking to improve your game, an amateur looking to step things up, or a seasoned pro looking for a reliable utility disc, this will surely deliver.

Versatile Mid-Range Driver

The Buzzz truly shines as a disc on the green. This is the one I turn to when I’m playing those mid-length holes that don’t quite need a driver but still need a decent arm throw. It’s also fantastic for approach shots that need consistent straightness to get you close to the basket.

I’ve appreciated its slight fade on light, level throws, which becomes a serious asset when navigating obstacles or looking to land softly near the goal. A gentle finishing curve can make all the difference when playing in a tight course.

Here are some ideal shot types where I’ve found it to be particularly useful:

Straight Drives

Precision is key for wooded courses or narrow fairways. The disc maintains its path reliably due to its neutral stability, giving you that straight shot you need.

Controlled Turn

Its gentle turn rating of -1 can be worked into a subtle anhyzer line, providing a controlled curve to the right when needed. Perfect for moving around unexpected obstacles.

Soft Fade

With its subtle fade at the end, this is my go-to disc when I need my shot to finish with a slight move to the left. It’s an ideal disc when a tricky basket location requires a light curve.

The multiple plastic options, not to mention its availability in Glo and Titanium, make this a disc that can be tailored to your preferences. The versatility, control, and build quality make it a solid choice for beginners and seasoned disc golfers who need a dependable mid-ranger to get the job done.

Similar Discs

Axiom Hex

The Axiom Hex is a stable disc with similar characteristics to the Buzzz. It’s known for its ability to maintain a straight line, much like the latter. However, in my experience, I found the Hex to have a slightly lower glide, making it not as long of a flier.

Discmania MD3

The MD3 is another disc close to the Buzzz regarding the flight. It offers a controllable straightness with a predictable fade. While being a finesse disc might require a little bit more arm speed to get the wanted distance.

Divergent Discs Kapre

The Kapre provides a reliably straight path with a similar speed and glides to the Buzzz. This one has a touch more fade, making it great for shots with a more aggressive finish. For me, the feel in hand is a tad different, but it still offers the reliability of a mid-range disc.

While each of these discs brings its unique feel and characteristics, they still have that common thread of being dependable, mid-range options. I’ll always have a soft spot for the Buzzz due to its remarkable dependability and precision.

If you’re a disc golfer seeking a versatile and trustworthy disc that holds any line, the Discraft Buzzz comes highly recommended. It’s superb for novices trying to hone their skills and equally beneficial for advanced players seeking a trustworthy companion on the course.

It’s not ideal if you’re looking for a highly overstable disc, but it will hold its line like a champ.
